What is B12?

The Vitamin B12 injection is known as hydroxocobalamin. Vitamin B12 is a vitamin that helps to keep nerves and blood cells healthy. Our bodies don’t make Vitamin B12, it is obtained from meat and dairy foods such as meat, fish, milk and eggs. You may have a deficiency if you are vegan, don’t eat enough B12 rich food, or if you have other health conditions which affects absorption.

Who can have a B12 injection?

For injections of individuals to enhance energy levels and metabolism for improved bodily functionality to aid general health and wellbeing. Also for those individuals diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency.

Individuals who:

Are 18 years of age and over
Have provided valid consent to receive the injection
Are vegetarian or vegan
Have been diagnosed by their GP as vitamin B12 deficient, e.g. pernicious anaemia
Have undergone gastric or bariatric surgery
Have malabsorption of vitamin B12 due to metformin, proton pump inhibitors, H2 antagonists, anticonvulsants (phenytoin, barbiturates and primidone)
Have Crohn’s disease or similar conditions
Require active vitamin B12 boost to help enhance energy levels and metabolism for general health and wellbeing
Use nitrous oxide

Who is excluded from having a private B12 injection?

Exclusions, Individuals who are not suitable for private B12 injection.

Are under 18 years of age
Have not provided valid consent
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Are hypersensitive to the active substances or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1 of the SPC
Have Leber’s hereditary optic atrophy
Have cobalamin and derivative allergies
Have low blood potassium levels
Are undergoing cancer treatment
Have cardiac arrhythmias
Require the dose for general health and wellbeing and had a vitamin B12 dose less than 2 months ago
